Malsano’Kuo’m’: The Shoppe was inspired by Chief Bernard’s travels to other First Nations. She saw the need for a centralized space to help community members access everyday items.
In 2020, Lennox Island created its own model in the community. Open to the public 5 days a week, The Shoppe offers a variety of items including gently used clothing, kitchenware, books, and bathroom accessories. Community members can also purchase convenience store items and fresh veggies grown in Lennox Island Greenhouse.
The Shoppe also offer several community programs to help those in need with winter clothing, children’s clothing, and food baskets.
In 2022, the Sweetgrass Gathering Kitchen opened in The Shoppe. The kitchen offers hot meals 4 times a week at a reasonable price.
The Shoppe is a valued community space. When donations are made to the Lennox Island First Nation, the money is invested in furthering the work of the Shoppe, the Church restoration fund and/or providing sports programming for youth in the community. Lennox Island First Nation is registered as a qualified donee. All those who make a monetary donation to Lennox Island community are able to collect a tax receipt.
